Lorne Road Upgrade & Sealing
Phase 2 Design Development
Construction Progress: October 2024
Project Summary
CWC delivered the pre-construction services for the upgrading and sealing of 13.5km of Lorne Road between Kew and Comboyne.
The project involved significant collaboration with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to work through numerous options with competing project constraints such as steep batter treatments, property acquisition and sensitive environment corridor to achieve an outcome that is in accordance with the community and within the allocated budget.
The project is broken into stages, being:
Stages 1 & 2 (3.8km) – ‘For Construction’ design package (including REF) for the identified upgrade of Lorne Road between Comboyne Rd and Koppin Yarratt Road
Stage 3 (9.7km) – ‘Concept’ design package for the upgrade of Lorne Road between Koppin Yarratt and Tipperary Road.
Complexity with the environmental approvals resulted in CWC completing additional Ecological site surveys and investigations to avoid progressing down the BDAR pathway which saved Council $millions and +12months to program. CWC’s ability to identify this issue and work with Council to resolve and minimise its potential impacts assisted with the finalisation of the design and commencement of construction in a timely manner.
