Project Summary

Kempsey Shire Council (Council) engaged CWC in December 2023 to develop the design of the Macleay Valley Way and Second Lane intersection in Kempsey. Due to various factors, Council required a fast-tracked design developed to complete the project within the approved grant funding deadlines.

CWC adopted an agile design development approach with Council, incorporating a gap analysis of works completed to date, risk assessment and detail design. This enabled CWC to complete the works within 3 months to enable construction to commence within the desirable timeframes.

Construction was managed by Council and completed with the assistance of subcontractors within the grant funding milestones. Council attributed program success to the high quality and efficient completion of the design in accordance with Council expectations. CWC involvement in the design process was well regarded by Council with great feedback provided on the coordination and management of the final design and drawing deliverables.

Collins Williams have exceeded expectations in their performance for Design of Macleay Valley Way and Second Lane for Kempsey Shire Council. The team have a demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the project scope and risk mitigation. It is evident they have worked with and in Local Government and understand the constraints and limitations. Their proactive communication and dedication to resolving risks before becoming a significant project issue has been refreshing from a contracted consultant. Detail of plans and focus on safety has been a great attribute which has been demonstrated in their draft detail design submission being of the highest quality Council have received during my employment.
