Derby Street Upgrade
Project Summary
CWC delivered the pre-construction design and environmental services for the upgrading of two key sections of Derby Street in Walcha, the primary gateway from the south and north into the regional NSW North Tablelands township.
The project involved significant collaboration with Walcha Council and the community to achieve a practical, affordable outcome with the planned upgrade works that will serve to enhance the safety, amenity and character of Walcha.
Services provided included detail survey, geotechnical investigations, detail design development for the road upgrade including watermain relocation design, stormwater assessment/design, landscape design, utility relocation design coordination, the preparation of environmental approvals (REF), construction tender documentation and managing the construction tender phase. Construction of the first phase of delivery is scheduled to commence in late 2024, with CWC providing construction supervision support for Council.
The Derby Street upgrade project involved a challenging balance of competing engineering technical requirements, community expectations and overall budget availability. CWC worked closely with Council to develop and refine the design efficiently to ensure each of these items were considered, adding significant value to the process.
